BPA Heights Goes Green

The Bui Power Authority (BPA) has completed a 31kW roof-top solar PV System that will power all the lighting load at its offices; the BPA Heights, located at Airport in Accra.

The system utilizes a hybrid inverter that allows direct usage of power from the solar panels and also to charge a 62kW battery capacity as backup. The stored power will be used when the need arises.

This is to support the Ministry of Energy’ Rooftop Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Programme in the country, which has a primary objective of providing 200MW peak load relief on the national grid through solar PV technology in the medium term.

Meanwhile BPA is set to add 250MWp of solar energy to Ghana’s national grid. In this regard our Switchyard at the Bui Generating Station has been expanded to evacuate 250MWp of Solar-generated power. The initial 50MWp Solar Project is expected to be completed and operational in 2019.

The Governing Board of the BPA at its meeting in September 2018 inspected the solar PV System.
