The Bui Power Authority (BPA) has held its 3rd Edition of Annual Community Fun Games. The fun games brought together 4 communities within the Bui Generating Station (BGS) enclave in the quest to enhance the cordial relationship within the communities. It also afforded the Authority the opportunity to unearth talents in line with the vision of the Chief Executive Officer, Hon. Samuel Kofi Dzamesi, of developing talents especially in football within the BGS enclave.
The well-attended event saw the four communities compete mainly in football and card games, in addition to other non-scoring games like ludo and draught. The participating communities included Bongase, BPA Resettlement Township, Jama and Agbelekame.
The Director, Estates, Mr. Wumbilla Salifu, who represented the Chief Executive Officer of the Authority, Hon. Samuel Kofi Dzamesi, reiterated the objective of the games and explained the vision of the Chief Executive Officer to use such programs to unearth, cultivate and harness sporting talents within the BPA operational area, and as such, events of that nature will be organized frequently for the youth. In this regard, consultations are ongoing to secure the services of a former Ghana national football team’s technical coach to advise on how to scout football talents in the area.
In the male competition, Bongase and BPA Resettlement Township faced off in the final match, with Bongase retaining the trophy won last year. For the ladies, Jama emerged champions in an all-play-all competition after they beat Bongase and drew with Bui.
In an exhibition match, BPA’s team played against the Security detachment at the BGS in a draw game (1-1).
Items donated by BPA to the competing community football teams included a trophy for the winner, medals (gold, silver and bronze), a set of jerseys and matching shorts, football and drinks.
Other dignitaries present at the games were the Director of Power Operations, Ing. Samuel Nimako Boateng, BPA Deputy Director, Eric Acheampong, the Assemblyman for Jama, Hon. Jacob Pambo, Former Assemblyman for Bui, Hon. Maxwell Gbadago as well as traditional leaders from the various communities who also took turns to present the prizes to the teams.
