The Chief Executive Officer of the Bui Power Authority, Mr. Samuel Kofi Dzamesi, has assured the world that the Authority, under the supervision of Ghana’s Ministry of Energy, is undertaking projects that will help Ghana achieve the SDG Goal 7. Mr. Dzamesi was addressing participants at the Ghana Energy Day, as part of events organized by the UK Presidency as part of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), also known as Conference of Parties (COP 26), being held in Glasgow, Scotland.
He reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to supporting the development of renewable energy in the West African subregion. He pointed to Ghana’s dedication to the Paris Agreement on Climate Change with the signing of the BPA Amendment Act 2020 (Act 1046) into law which positions the Authority to contribute significantly to increasing renewable energy in Ghana. The law empowers Bui Power Authority to develop renewable energy and other clean energy alternatives in the country.
Mr. Dzamesi enumerated BPA’s Renewable Energy projects which includes a 404 Hydroelectric Power Plant, a 250MWp land-based solar, 1MWp of 5MWp Floating solar, 45kW Tsatsadu Micro Hydro plant and also BPA’s prospects in developing the Western Rivers of Ghana and increasing the Floating solar generation.
The COP26 Summit, which is one of the largest gatherings of world leaders, brings parties together to accelerate action towards the goals of the Paris Agreement and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.
