BUI POWER AUTHORITY AWARDS FULL SCHOLARSHIP PACKAGES TO PROJECT AFFECTED PERSONS

Three (3) Project Affected Persons have received full scholarship packages from the Bui Power Authority as part of the Authority’ Scholarship Scheme aimed at assisting the people in their personal education. The scholarship packages cover admission fees including tuition and SRC dues, accommodation, utility, feeding, books/stationery and stipends for the entire duration of their respective programs.

The three beneficiaries, who also received laptop computers from BPA, are Badu Noah Kwasi, who has gained admission to Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology to pursue BSc. Materials Engineering; Kpakpa Naomi, who has been offered BSc. Fire and Disaster Management at the University of Energy and Natural Resources; and Dikro Enock Kwasi, who has gained admission to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology to pursue BSc. Landscaping Design and Management.

At a brief ceremony to hand over the laptops, the Chairman of the BPA Scholarship Committee, Dr David Mensah, urged the beneficiaries to maximize the use of the laptop to gain knowledge instead of frivolous internet surfing. He urged them to study hard to justify their selection by the Committee.

The Director of the General Services Department of the Authority, Wumbilla Salifu, urged the students who have benefited from the Scholarship to take their studies seriously and come out with “flying colours” in their academics.   He also encouraged the students to be responsible in the use of the laptops given to them and likened the laptop to a two-edged sword that could either be used for the benefit of their studies or to the detriment of their studies.

He hoped it will be used responsibly to enhance their knowledge. He wished the students well throughout their stay in the university and beyond.

The Director also seized the opportunity to advise parents to encourage their children to patronize the Fred Oware Innovation Centre where they would unearth their talents in Robotics and, Information, Communication and Technology (ICT)

Thus far, eight PAPs have benefited from the Bui Power Authority Scholarship Scheme, which commenced in the 2019/2020 academic year.

The BPA Scholarship Scheme is being administered by a ten (10) member Committee comprising the Chiefs of Bui, Bator Akanyakrom, Dokokyina and Jama New Town communities, a woman each from the Banda and Bole Districts, Directors of Education of the Banda and Bole Districts, a Senior Officer from Bui Power Authority, a prominent personality within the Bui enclave and the head of a public educational institution within the area. The Committee was inaugurated by the Chief Executive Officer of the Bui Power Authority, Mr. Fred Oware on June 05, 2019 to be chaired by a renowned philanthropist and Director of the Northern Empowerment Association, Dr. David Mensah.

The Scholarship scheme is part of the Bui Power Authority’s efforts to support the communities around the Bui enclave and contribute positively to education within the Region.
