Bui Power Authority participated in the Africa 2025 Conference and Exhibition on Water Storage and Hydropower Development, held from July 8 to 10, 2025, at the Labadi Beach Hotel in Accra. The event brought together stakeholders from across the world to deliberate on sustainable strategies for water resource management and hydropower development in Africa.

Delivering a keynote address at the opening ceremony, the Acting Chief Executive Officer of Bui Power Authority, Ing. Kow Eduakwa Sam, spoke on the theme “Future Plans for Water Resources and Hydro Development in Africa” where he emphasized the critical role of innovation and hybrid energy systems in securing a resilient and sustainable Energy future.

Ing. Sam also highlighted BPA’s strategic direction in integrating hydro-solar hybrid systems, enhanced by battery energy storage technologies. This approach, he noted, ensures optimized use of solar energy and stored water resources to meet peak electricity demand efficiently and sustainably.
A key milestone of the conference was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Bui Power Authority and the Uganda Electricity Generation Company Limited (UEGCL). The agreement was signed on the BPA side by Ing. Kow Eduakwa Sam and the UEGCL side by CEO of UEGCL, Dr. Harrison E. Mutikanga. The Agreement establishes a framework for technical collaboration in hydropower operations, Renewable Energy integration, and capacity development between the two power utilities.

The Africa 2025 Conference served as a platform for BPA to showcase its progress in Renewable Energy Development through discussions on technical research papers covering various topics on Dam Safety, battery and hydro storage systems and innovative strategies for climate change adaptation.
The Conference in general reinforced Africa’s shared commitment to sustainable utilization of available hydro resources and offered valuable insights into Africa’s evolving power landscape.
