Bui Power Authority (BPA) participated in the inaugural edition of the “Tree for Life” initiative, introduced by the Government of Ghana to address deforestation, illegal mining, and other environmental challenges. The event took place on Friday, July 25, 2025, at the Bui Generating Station under the theme “Restoring Degraded Landscapes Across the Country.” It brought together various stakeholders, including the Forestry Commission, traditional leaders, local schools, resettlement communities, and security services—all united in the effort to protect and restore the environment.

Mr. Chrisentus Bangekewa Kuunifaa, Director of Health, Safety, and Environment at BPA, spoke about the Authority’s ongoing commitment to integrating environmental stewardship into its daily operations. He noted that land restoration not only benefits the environment but also creates employment opportunities for young people. He emphasized that protecting natural resources should be viewed as a collective responsibility.
The Chief Executive Officer of BPA, Ing. Kow Eduakwa Sam, underscored the Authority’s sustained commitment to clean energy and its role in addressing climate change. He also highlighted long-standing initiatives such as the Forest Resource Enhancement Programme (FREP), which was launched in 2012 and focuses on tree planting, protecting water sources, and preserving natural habitats in the Bui area.

BPA Board Chairman, Ambassador Kwadwo Nyamekye-Marfo, commended the consistency of BPA’s environmental initiatives, including the Zero Bushfire Campaign. He described the “Tree for Life” initiative as a reminder of Ghana’s duty to safeguard its natural heritage.
Together with BPA staff and local partners, various tree species—including teak, mahogany, ceiba, and dawadawa—were planted. School children also participated through the “One Child, One Tree” campaign, demonstrating that everyone, regardless of age, has a role to play in building a greener future.
