Minister for Energy & Green Transition Visits Bui Power Authority

The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Hon. John Abdulai Jinapor, on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, paid a working visit to the Bui Power Authority (BPA) as part of his engagements with agencies under the Energy Ministry. The visit aimed to deepen collaboration and enhance informed decision-making at the Ministry level. The Minister was warmly received by the Chief Executive Officer of BPA, Ing. Kow Eduakwa Sam, and the management team.

In his remarks, Hon. Jinapor commended BPA’s vital role in stabilizing the national power supply at peak times and particularly during the recent gas pipeline maintenance, which was managed without any load shedding due to the Authority’s strategic interventions.

Hon. Jinapor highlighted BPA’s progress in solar energy development and encouraged continued investment in battery storage systems to maximize renewable energy output. He also addressed concerns regarding the proposed merger between BPA and the Volta River Authority (VRA). He emphasized that staff welfare remained paramount and that any future developments concerning the merger would ensure broad stakeholder engagement throughout the process.

On the issue of ECG’s indebtedness to BPA and other power producers, the Minister disclosed that ECG’s operational accounts have been streamlined to enable the implementation of the cash waterfall payment system. He also announced that all State-Owned Enterprises will transition to prepaid metering systems as a measure to improve payment compliance.

The Minister was accompanied by Directors of the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition.
