Ing. Peter ACHEAMPONG
Ing. Peter Acheampong
Ing. Peter Acheampong is an accomplished engineer with a BSc. in Civil Engineering and an MSc. in Renewable Energy from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. A member of the Ghana Institution of Engineering and the Ghana National Electrotechnical Committee, he also holds specialized certificates in energy storage, efficiency, and hydrogen integration from the Renewable Energy Academy of Germany.
With over 18 years in the energy sector, his career began in 2006 with the Community Sanitation Agency. He later oversaw significant Civil Works projects, including the Brekum-Sampa Road and the Sansu Laterite Dam Raise at Anglo Gold Ashanti. Joining Bui Power Authority in July 2008, he played a crucial role in the construction of the Bui Hydroelectric Dam.
From 2013 to 2016, he focused on civil work studies for RCC and embankment dams, contributing significantly to the field’s knowledge base. Notably, he was part of the technical team for Ghana’s Integrated Resource and Resilience Planning under the Power Africa Compact, an initiative to increase access to electricity in sub-Saharan Africa.
Peter’s leadership skills and technical prowess led him to establish and manage Bui Power Authority’s Renewable Energy Unit in 2017. Under his guidance, significant solar projects were completed, including a 100MWp Solar PV project with Meinergy Technology Ltd. as well as the ground-breaking 5MWp Floating Solar plant. He also oversaw ongoing projects, ensuring their successful execution and expansion.
He rose to become the Deputy Director of the Renewable Energy Department, where he oversaw project implementations and strategy. Following his outstanding performance in this position, he was appointed as Director, Renewable Energy Department, in April 2024. In this capacity, he is tasked with developing and executing policies to promote Renewable Energy adoption and sustainability.
