The 161kV switchyard is an outdoor type and situated downstream of the powerhouse at the eastern bank. It is located about 370m away from the main dam axis. Its ground elevation is at 110m NLD and has a general floor area of about 16,531.5m2 (154.5m x107m). Located on the northern side of the switchyard is the switchyard control building, which houses a 34.5kV switchgear room, a 0.5kV switchgear room, a battery room, protection panel room, offices, lavatories, storage room amongst others.
The Bui Switchyard has been expanded to evacuate 250MW of solar generated power from the 250MW Bui Solar Farm.
The transmission system evacuates power from the plant through the Switchyard and via four 161kV transmission lines, which are connected to the national grid using three twin bundle and one single bundle lines spanning a total distance of about 241km. The transmission lines are namely: Bui-Sawla, Bui-Kintampo, Bui-Techiman and Bui-Sunyani. The transmission works under the BHP also consisted of the modification of the Sawla, Techiman and Sunyani substations to be able to accommodate the newly constructed lines.
A total of 241km of transmission lines were built under the project.
- 77-km Bui-Sawla line
- 18-km Bui-Techiman line
- 67-km Bui-Kintampo line
- 138-km Bui-Sunyani line
