BPA Profile

Bui Power Authority was established by an Act of Parliament (Act 740, 2007) with a mandate to plan, execute and manage the Bui Hydroelectric Project, now the Bui Generating Station.

The mandate was expanded through the Bui Power Authority (Amendment) Act, 2020 (Act 1046) to enable BPA to develop renewable and other clean energy alternatives in Ghana, aligned with national targets for scaling renewable energy penetration by 2030.

Under the direction of the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition, BPA has undertaken renewable energy activities on behalf of the State, including hydropower initiatives on the Western Rivers, the Tsatsadu Micro Hydro Project, and the 250MW Solar Project at the Bui enclave.

Legal mandate

Execute renewable energy projects on behalf of the State.
Undertake its own renewable energy activities.
Undertake clean energy alternatives in the country.
Establish amenities to support functions such as agro-business, fisheries, and tourism.
Supply electrical power generated at the dam under arrangements with licensed public utilities and stakeholders.
